Repair Guide: Fixing The Throttle Position Sensor on a 2018 Ram ProMaster City
Overview
A less common vehicle model, the 2018 Ram ProMaster City, sometimes experiences a unique issue with its Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). This repair guide walks you through the process of fixing it.
Tools Required
- Screwdriver (Phillips head)
- New Throttle Position Sensor
- Socket Set
- Diagnostic OBD2 Reader (optional)
- Torque Wrench (optional)
Steps to Fix the Issue
Step 1: Locate TPS
The Throttle Position Sensor is located on the butterfly spindle of the ProMaster City.
Step 2: Remove the Old TPS
Use the Phillips head screwdriver or socket set (as per the screw type) to unscrew the two screws holding the TPS in place. You should then be able to pull the TPS off the butterfly spindle.
Step 3: Install the New TPS
Position your new TPS onto the butterfly spindle and secure it using the screws removed earlier. Ensure you do not over tighten the screws. If available, use the torque wrench to tight it to the manufacturer's specification.
Step 4: Reconnect the TPS
Reconnect the electrical connector to the new TPS. Make sure it is properly seated and secure.
Step 5: Test the New TPS
Start your vehicle. If the check engine light persists, consider using a Diagnostic OBD2 Reader to clear any error codes. This should reset the system and recalculate the new TPS.
